As Seen in The Wall Street Journal: ‘Swan Song’ Producer Jonathan King Asks $10 Million for Los Angeles Compound

Located about a mile from Venice Beach, the property contains a four-bedroom main home that spans roughly 3,000 square feet, and a roughly 900-square-foot guesthouse, according to Suzanne Costello of Bulldog Realtors, who shares the listing with colleague Jennifer Hughes.

The “Swan Song” producer created the home by combining two adjacent properties he bought for a total of $4.9 million in 2015, according to public records. Mr. King said he bought the two properties because he wanted outdoor space; in Venice, properties close to the beach tend to be on very small lots. The property is located in a part of Venice known as the “walk streets,” Ms. Costello said, with sidewalks separating the houses and roads on the perimeter of the area. “You can drive by on one of the side streets and have no idea that they’re here,” Mr. King said.

Mr. King said it took about five years and several million dollars to gut-renovate both houses. His vision was to create a property that felt like it was beachfront, he said, with features such as sand-colored, heated limestone floors. The rooms in the main home were opened and repositioned so that they face the sky to the west instead of facing inward, and the downstairs was designed to feel aquatic while the upstairs has a treehouse feel.

Outside, Mr. King said he redid the landscaping, adding a swimming pool and spa decorated with a roughly 30-foot-long tile mosaic of a breaking wave. The bottom level of the guesthouse operates as a pool house, he said, while the guest suite sits on the top level.

Mr. King was executive producer of the 2018 Oscar-winning film “Roma.” His credits also include “Dreamgirls,” “Spotlight,” and “Stillwater.”
