Paris Property Group Sells Picasso’s Longtime Mistress’s Former Paris Home
French photographer, painter, and poet, Dora Maar, lived in the apartment located around the corner from Picasso’s studio on Rue des Grands Augustins.
Months after purchasing the stunning and ideally located Paris apartment, owners stumbled upon the fascinating discovery that the apartment was once home to French visual artist and Picasso’s longtime mistress, Dora Maar. Maar was a celebrated painter, photographer, and poet who was prominent in the mid 20th century and among the surreal movement. She was involved in a long and tumultuous relationship with one of the most famous artists in history, Pablo Picasso, whose studio is located around the corner from the apartment. The home was sold by Paris Property Group, the Leverage representative in Paris, France.
The apartment offers elegant period details, including a lovely staircase leading up to the apartment from the courtyard and tall windows. The home is currently undergoing thoughtful renovations to include modern amenities while still celebrating its historic significance.
While most widely known as Picasso’s longtime mistress and muse, Dora Maar was a fellow visual artist, who specialized in photography, painting, and poetry. Maar has become an influential force in the art industry for women, with her work currently displayed at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The exhibit features nearly 400 works that celebrate the late artist. Maar is known as a surrealist and political activist.
